Good morning class,
Wow, there is a whole world of concealers out there that I never knew about! I’d like to chat about a fairly recent beauty item discovery. I say that simply because everyone seems to be obsessed with concealers! Obviously I always knew what they were and what they did, however I didn’t really start using concealer till perhaps a year ago? (What did I do with my life before then!?) So I’m still finding my feet in the concealer world and have been testing out different products over the past year, and now I think I’ve found my faves!
And here we have it ladies and gentleman – I’ve narrowed it down… these are my four faves! The LA Girl Pro Conceal in Classic Ivory (a Shaanxo favourite!), the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in Fair 01 (I probably use this most often), MAC Pro Long Wear concealer in NC15, and the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. Da Daa! I’m sure you’ve heard of all these before as they’re some of the most popular, but here’s what I think of them + a bit of a comparison.
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair 01
Dear God, I just want to say a big thank-you for making the world and therefore making the humans who created this product and indirectly creating the ingredients and packaging for this product also. Amen.
Okay, now that’s out of the way I just want to tell you (I am trying to control myself) about how much I love this concealer. First thing. It’s cheap. It’s like always on special (you can buy them from Countdown in NZ) and I don’t even know how much the usual price is because I always buy it on special ($11).
Second thing. It’s good. Like really good. I use mine under my eyes as the colour Fair 01 is actually fair enough to brighten up my undereye area. Woohoo! It brightens up that area like nothin’ else. I’d totally recommend if you’re pasty like me, and if you’re not then you’ll probably still like it.
Creamy consistency, decent packaging, nice applicator, and easy to find. 10/10
LA Girl Pro Conceal
I’ve got these in several different shades because I wanted to try out that Kim K contouring jazz. Spoiler alert! It works. Let’s save that for this post though…
The shade I use as a light concealer under my eyes on on blemishes is Classic Ivory. I see they’ve released some new – even lighter – shades! Hands up if you’d like me to do a review on the new shades!? (UPDATE – here it is!)
Anyway, I’m going to start by explaining that yes, this one is a little pink. However I find it works really well in colour correcting blemishes! It’s an awesome consistency as well, INCREDIBLY cheap. Like, $5 at your local $2 shop (I know, that totally doesn’t make sense). I have used it under my eyes and it does the job in that area too. It’s good for all around use.
The downside with this one is that the applicator is one of those horrible little brushes. I don’t know why but I really dislike those things! It’s annoying to get product out as you can’t really control how much comes out. Also they’re just cheap looking which kinda irks me. I’d love this concealer with a doe-foot applicator. Dream result.
However, the price makes up for any downsides and it’s fairly easy to get from your local $2 shop or I prefer to buy mine from Beauty Joint.
MAC Pro Long Wear concealer in NC15
This one is a little pricier. However, it’s amazing! I absolutely love the consistency, it’s more liquidy than the others but it’s so easy to blend and a little goes a long way! It lasts for forever, it never creases on me, it has awesome coverage and the colour match is on point. I believe it’s around $40? which is rather expenny for the size, however it does last for ages.
Downsides. This one does have a few major downsides. The first and most important being that the pump pumps out far too much product. You can’t pump out just a little bit, it’s like this much or none basically. I find that if I’m using this one I’ll use it under the eyes and on blemishes because you don’t want to waste any! It would be so amazing with a better pump!
Second downside is that the bottle is made of glass which means that it can break. Easily. The glass it’s made of seems very thin and I get anxious using it because I don’t want to drop it! I have seen girls posting photos of theirs dropped and cracked and it makes my heart cry.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla
I long for this product in the colour Chantilly which looks like an amazing highlighter shade and I’ve seen one of my favourite YouTubers Arna Alayne using that one and it looks gorgeous for whiteys like me!
However Vanilla is the next best thing and I find that it matches me quite well. I mainly use this one for under the eyes, as it doesn’t seem to last as well over blemishes – probably because it’s so darn creamy!
I love this for under the eyes it blends out so well and it has a wee doe-foot applicator which is great. I don’t tend to use it as much because it costs about $40 and is even smaller than the MAC one so each time I use it I think of the money it’s costing me.
However I should really just get over that and start using it more often because it really is lovely.
No other downsides to this product, it’s great! When they say creamy, they mean it! Plus there are a multitude of shades which I love – so one for every possible need!
Well, there you have it. My fave concealers. I don’t tend to use concealer for blemishes as much as I use a full coverage foundation and I find I don’t need a concealer after that. However I still love these babies for both uses! I would recommend 100%. There’s one there for every wallet/skin tone so I’m sure you can find yourself a new bestie. Or perhaps four new besties!?
Let me know what your fave concealers are!? I’d love to hear about them! Or if you love one of these then tell me all about it. Does anyone else have the pump problem with the MAC Prolong Wear?
