Estee Lauder Double Wear Before and After Review Test Best foundation ever

Kia orana class,

Just quickly, if you haven’t already – go and follow my Facebook page for extra updates AND a giveaway when I hit 1000 likes!

For those of you that follow my every move, or have been doing a recent stalk of my blog you’ll know that I said that the e.l.f. Acne Fighting Foundation was my favourite foundation of all time… well, I think it’s time for an update. Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE the e.l.f. foundation! However I think I’ve got a new favourite, and I can safely say it’s my favourite because I’ve repurchased it over 6 times!

Everyone knows about Estee Lauder Double Wear. Like, I know you know all about it. You’re probably thinking “Ugh not another post about that expensive Double Wear foundation, I’m sick of hearing about it, I’m going to close the page and watch Frenchy on YouTube…” STOP! Please. If you haven’t tried this foundation yet then please keep reading, I implore you.

Why should you keep reading you ask? “Well this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, to tell you why the best foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear.”

You guys know my skin is literally a slick of oil and everything seems to slip and slide off my face by the end of a school day. Honestly, finding something to stay on and not look awful by 3 o’clock is not an easy feat. Well GUESS WHAT my little cherubs – Double Wear is the BEST (yes, that needed underlining, bold and italics) foundation that lasts like that on my skin without a reapplication of SOMETHING.

I am so happy because it looks so goooooood!

Let’s talk details:

Formula:

The formula of this wee glorious container of joy is a runny liquid. If you get right in there and have a good sniff of it, it does smell strongly of a weird makeup sort of smell. Not my fave, but we can live with it as once it’s on the face you can’t smell a thing. It says fragrance-free which is true in the sense that it doesn’t have an artificial fragrance but it does have that makeup smell.

The formula is marketed as being a ‘natural, semi-matte’ formula although I’d definitely say it was a little more than ‘semi-matte’ however I really like the matte finish it gives and I would agree that it’s natural looking.  It is marketed at’15-hour long-wear’ and it’s pretty close to that for me. Like, no-one’s perfect, it does wear off after a while if I’m touching my face, but it’s the longest-lasting foundation I’ve ever tried. It also says that it ‘lasts through heat, humidity and non-stop activity’ which I agree with as it doesn’t melt off my skin or anything and sometimes I wear it when I go to the gym after school and it’s still going strong.

It’s got all the goods – Oil free, dermatologist-tested, non-acnegenic (so it won’t clog pores) which makes it perfect for acne-prone, oily skin like mine, but also for any skin type really – although I can’t personally vouch for them!

Lastly it’s marketed as ‘smudge-proof’ and non-transferable which I 100% agree with! This little baby just sets down on your face like glue (but still totally natural-looking). I mean once it’s on, it doesn’t come off. Which also means that you need to have an amazing makeup remover on your side so you don’t leave any on overnight. I am posting about my favourite makeup-remover in the next post so stay tuned!

Application:

I apply mine with a damp beauty blender and I’ve found this the most effective way for me. It blends into the skin really easily because of the light liquid formula – HOWEVER just be warned that you do only have a window of about 5 minutes between application and setting. I have forgotten about it a few times and gone off to do something only to come back and try to apply under-eye concealer over the top and the foundation went all weird and looked awful. So I recommend applying your cream products straight after the foundation to avoid this.

Double Wear 1

If you were thinking this makeup look is very similar to my L.A Girl Concealer post then it’s because I took the photos on the same day and used the same lip colour (because I liked it) however I can guarantee that it is Double Wear foundation in this picture and L.A Girl concealer in the other!

Coverage:

This part I don’t get. It says it’s medium coverage but I would say it’s definitely more of a full coverage foundation. I guess you could apply a super duper light layer of foundation but I think this baby covers everything. It could cover up a murder! Even if I have the worst hormonal pimples I only need a thin layer of Double Wear and every trace of Shark Week is gone. I actually really like the coverage because it’s so good even though the foundation doesn’t feel cakey or thick on the face.

Shades:

There are about a million shades (fourty-two actually) and each has a warm or cool toned base which is just FAB. You can get matched at a counter although when I got matched (about three years ago so they’re probably fine now) the lady there matched me literally about 5 shades too dark. If you go to the counter right now I just spied on their Facebook page that you can get a FREE 10-day sample to try before you purchase the foundation – so you would be able to check if you have been matched correctly before you bought it.I ended up using Findation and my shade is perfect for me (Cool Bone).

Packaging:

The DREADED pump-less bottle! Not to fear though folks – luckily the MAC foundation pump fits this bottle like a gem so that is what I use for my one and I would 10000% recommend this too.

Other than that the bottle is a petite and simplistic glass bottle holding 30mls which is the usual amount for a foundation. It fits in with the rest of the brands packaging which I like. The glass is frosted and super thick so I feel like the bottle wouldn’t break too easily.

Price point:

Thankfully Estee Lauder actually put their prices down last year (I think) and it’s now only $69 NZ for 30mls which is actually not too bad when you think about it. It’s a high-end foundation and compared to our drugstore prices in NZ (think $40 for a Revlon foundation) it’s actually really decent and doesn’t really break the bank. I think that foundations are something that deserve being splashed out on and I would wholeheartedly recommend splashing out on this. There may be dupes out there but quite honestly, they’re not going to cut it. I am impressed with Estee Lauder’s pricing in New Zealand and I think they are being quite reasonable! Plus you can get that free sample too so if you weren’t sure about spending all that cash money then you could have a wee try first (trust me, it will be love at first sight!).

Recommendations:

I would recommend this foundation to the following people: EVERYONE, oily and acne-prone skin especially, anyone needing a foundation that is long-lasting, anyone wanting a medium-full coverage foundation, teachers, mums and people that work long shifts, people that don’t have time to re-apply their foundation, light-skinned beauties that can’t find a foundation match, someone that’s looking for a foundation for going out and lastly, EVERYONE.

Honestly, I use this foundation every single day and when I decide to try something different I always regret it. That’s not to say that other foundations aren’t good, this one is just my favourite. I think you can always judge if something is good by the amount of times you re-purchase it. I’m on a teacher’s wage and I will always re-purchase it no matter my financial situation. (I probably shouldn’t say that if I want a life-time supply huh?)
