Liquid Lip Paints That Genuinely Last ALL DAY! | Mellow Cosmetics

Mellow Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lip Paint Swatches Review

Bonjour class,

Okay I need a big fat DISCLAIMER right here. I am well aware that every man and his dog are talking about Mellow Cosmetics right now. (If you haven’t heard then you can ignore this message). Yes, they very well may be getting paid for it too. Did I get sent these products for free? Yes. Did I get paid to talk about these products? No. Would I repurchase these products with my own money? YES. I think it would be pretty fair to say any raving done by myself or anyone else (paid or unpaid) is totally just and truthful. I would not be going this crazy over nothing. I pinky swear!

In fact I am going to repurchase some of the shades I didn’t get sent because SPOILER ALERT these Lip Paints are a game changer. I’m talkin’ some Colourpop-esque hype is gonna happen around here very soon.

I will start by saying, yes, I am impressed. Mellow Cosmetics have really stepped up their game. That’s not to say their other products weren’t good. Their other products are actually fantastic in my opinion (I reviewed them here). However the packaging, the marketing, the formula of these new products is genuinely spot on.

I was lucky enough to be sent nine of their Matte Liquid Lip Paints, one of their Baked Eye Shadows (which I plan to use as a highlighter) and two of their Matte Lipsticks. The two lipsticks shades I was sent were their two new shades I believe. I usually wear matte liquid lipsticks now but in all honesty when I reach for a normal lipstick these days I often reach for my Mellow ones. I find the formula really creamy but still long-wearing!

Let’s chat about the Liquid Lip Paints. Can I just put it out there that I’m totally somewhat of a liquid lipstick guru? I’m not kidding. I own just about every liquid lipstick from every brand. I really prefer them to regular lipsticks. Easier to store, easier to apply, lasts longer, colour is more vibrant… I could go on. I am currently in the process of collecting the last few brands of liquid lipsticks so that I can do a HUGE post comparing them all for you. I feel as though I can safely say that this formula of liquid lipsticks is one of my favourites… already..

Here are the nine shades I was sent. I think it’s all of them bar the darkest shade. They are glorious.

Formula:

They are the perfect mix between Colourpop’s longevity and Jeffree Star/Kat Von D’s smooth texture and comfortable feel. They’re not creamy like the Anastasia ones, but they’re very thin (still super pigmented) and feel exceptionally comfortable. Like, I’ve been going around telling people the Kat Von D one’s feel like nothing… I think these are actually even more comfortable. You know how usually they feel sort of tight on the lips? And they crack where your lips naturally crack? These ones barely do that at all! They’re honestly so smooth I can’t believe it.

Colours:

The colour range is very on trend right now. Lots of Kylie Jenner shades, nudes, browns, deep colours. Personally, I love all the shades and I’ve tried all of them on. (Last week I was going hard on the lipsticks). However, I do wish they did a few more lighter and brighter colours. They have Rome which is a light pink – which looks very flattering on! Not like that sort of awful St Germain Barbie pink, it’s a gorgeous muted sort of pink. They also have Puerto Rico which is pretty much like Trap by Colourpop (but a better formula). I’d love a light lavender colour, a bright pink, a bright purple or a light nude. Heck, the formula is so great I’d love every lipstick shade ever in this range but in the words of the Rolling Stones – “We can’t always get what we waaaant”. Amiright?

Fingers crossed they bring out lots more shades!

Packaging:

Guys, c’mon, surely we can all agree this packaging looks phenomenal. It actually reminds me A LOT of the Stila Liquid Lipsticks. It doesn’t feel cheap what-so-ever (including the new lipstick packaging too). It’s very luxurious and I think they do the gold concept much better than some other brands *cough* Gerard Cosmetics *cough*. I almost want to buy the rest of the lipsticks in the new packaging just so they can look pretty on my makeup desk. (Even though I already have the shades in the old packaging).

Wear:

As I said earlier these liquid lipsticks feel SO nice to wear. With the Colourpop ones you can really feel them on your lips and they feel a bit dry and crackly. These ones don’t really feel like anything. I can’t get over how moisturizing they are. They are not drying at all. Even the Kat Von D (and especially the Colourpop ones) peel or crumble off a bit.Like I find myself biting my lip to peel off the old lipstick once it’s dried and peeled a little. These don’t do that at all and I think it’s because they’re so thin. They wear off a TINY bit throughout the day (some shades are worse than others) but generally stay on pretty well and when they do wear off a bit you can apply a new coat directly on top.

This formula of liquid lippies probably lasts the longest out of all the ones I’ve tried. I posted on Instagram a picture of me wearing Tehran and it had lasted through eating a drinking all day and still looked perfect!

Other Products:

The lipsticks themselves are oh-so-creamy! They last pretty well too and they’re nicely pigmented. I think the word I would use to describe the whole range of products by Mellow is ‘comfortable’. They are just a dream to wear! I’d definitely recommend them.

I also picked up a Baked Eye Shadow in the shade Cream. I picked this one up because I thought it would be a gorgeous highlight shade for face and eyes. I was right.

Mellow Cosmetics Highlighter Baked Eye Shadow Cream

I used this multi-purpose product on my face and eyes and it gave off the most gorgeous highlight. It’s quite a subtle highlight. It’s really pigmented but it’s not a dark pigment if you get my drift? It’s quite shimmery. I REALLY liked it as a highlight powder for my face. 10/10 would recommend.

Overall:

Overall, every product I’ve tried by Mellow Cosmetics has been utterly fantastic. I especially LOVE the Matte Liquid Lip Paints and I think these would be perfect for you if you A. love liquid lipsticks or B. don’t like liquid lipsticks because they are very drying. I think that’s pretty much everyone here? Okay good, go buy some!

I believe Shaaanxo also has a discount code for 20% off! The code is shaaanxo20 so use that and score a bit of a bargain BUT ONLY UNTIL the 6th of April 2016. (So be quick!) The price on the website is in U.S. Dollars so remember that NZers when you’re shopping! If you spend over $40 you get free shipping too (it would be easy to spend $40 to be quite honest).

Let me know your thoughts on the shade and range! Are you going to buy them? Have you tried them? What do you think? Most importantly… what is your fave shade!?

  1. I am a disabled female veteran. I absolutely love the nude matte and fell in love with puero rico and budapest. I was wondering if you would send some as a PR sample and then i can blog about them.
