Review | Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation

Before After Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation Review

Good morning class,

This post was highly requested so I thought I’d let you know my thoughts on the new (for NZ/Australia) Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless foundation! It retails for around $23 in New Zealand and you can buy it from Beauty Bliss, The Warehouse, Farmers, Kmart etc. If you’re not in New Zealand I’m sure it will be at your local pharmacy or drugstore and it will probably be much cheaper than $23… hehe.

As you know, I have super duper oily skin and foundations seem to last about 5 minutes on my oil slick face. Which is actually a real pain when you’re a teacher and you don’t really have 5 minutes to touch up your makeup! So I am always on the hunt for a medium-full coverage, long-lasting, matte foundation that works well with oily skin and doesn’t break me out! Phew! Is that too much to ask?

I was skeptical of this foundation as I’d heard mixed reviews on the original Fit Me foundation – most stating that it doesn’t last long on the skin. However the key words “matte” and “poreless” relaxed my mind.

Coverage:

Here’s a photo of my face before applying the foundation. All I’ve got on is a touch of moisturizer.

Here’s my after photo. I’m wearing only the foundation – no other makeup.

I quite like the coverage of this foundation. I’d say it’s a medium coverage but easily build-able. It hid all of my redness and acne scarring really well – I didn’t even need concealer! The only issue with this particular colour which I was given, is that it’s far too dark! 😦 I definitely need the 115, rather than the 120.

Formula:

The formula of this particular foundation is pretty much everything that floats my boat. It’s matte – which I love! (Although not super duper matte – which I love even more!). It’s a nice liquid foundation and it’s marketed at being for normal to oily skin. So I find it definitely works well with my oily skin and hasn’t broken me out. Hallelujah!

As for pore-erasing. I’d say it does an OK job at that. I mean, pores are pretty hard to erase! Paired with a good poreless primer I think you’d be good to go.

It definitely lasts for the whole day – although there was a bit of shine in my T-Zone (but when isn’t there shine in THAT area). It doesn’t seem to go gross around my nose or chin though which I find often happens with other foundations.

I absolutely LOVE the formula, I think it’s just fantastic for oily skin like mine. I haven’t tried a Maybelline foundation as nice as this one!

Application:

I applied mine with my beauty blender and I found it really easy to apply and it sat really nicely on my skin. It wasn’t too tacky, but I did need to set it with a powder all the same.

Using a beauty blender meant that I did have to use a decent amount of product, plus it’s quite a runny liquid, so it doesn’t spread out as much as a thicker consistency would’ve.

It seemed to set fairly fast, but I mucked around taking photos for about 5-10 minutes after I applied it and if I was using Double Wear – it would be stuck in place by now. However the Matte + Poreless was still able to be worked with. I applied some cream highlighter over the top of the foundation and it didn’t go patchy.

The finished product: My makeup of the day.

Packaging:

My ONLY gripe with this foundation is the packaging. I absolutely detest foundations that don’t have a pump. My eyes are bigger than my stomach so to speak. I usually put too much foundation on my hand in the morning than what I really need. So when there’s no pump it’s even worse! It just goes everywhere! I’m far too silly to work with pump-less bottles. Maybelline – we need a pump! Please for the love of cats!

Other than that it’s your classic 30 ml, glass bottle, screw cap lid foundation. It looks the same as the other Fit Me foundations – it just has different writing on the front so you need to keep your eyes peeled!

Price:

$23. For NZ, that’s pretty blimmen’ good. In fact, it’s about as good as we’re gonna get. Some drugstore foundations go for over $40! Drugstore! Iiiii know! I can hear all you American’s jaws hitting the floor as we speak. I’d definitely purchase this myself for $23 and I think it’s totally reasonable and actually quite cheap.

If you wanted it even cheaper you could probably have a look online. Amazon stocks legit Maybelline products for US prices. However it’d probably work out fairly similar considering the exchange rate at the moment.

Overall, I am damn impressed with this foundation. Honestly, I get a little uneasy when using drugstore foundations as I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to foundation, and my face is very high maintenance. I would say that this foundation pretty much ticks all of my boxes! I do need to get it in my shade though so I can actually wear it day-to-day without looking like I’ve stepped out of an episode of Geordie Shore!

NB: Disclaimer – I was gifted this product for free when I attended a Maybelline PR event. However that has no impact on my blog post, my thoughts and views are all my own, honest opinions.

  1. Great review! This one of the many foundations that I would love to try sometime. I think it should be a rule that all foundations have a pump! lol. 🙂 xo

  2. I need to try this! I have super oily skin and struggle to find something that doesn’t make me greasy as heck! Would you happen to know if the colour range is good for yellow undertoned people? xxx
