Today I want to chat about nails! You’ll notice I haven’t talked about nails or nail polish very much on my blog and that is because I only stopped biting them near the end of last year. I wasn’t a horrific nail biter who bites right into the nail bed. However I had been biting for as long as I can remember and I have never in my life had nice nails (until now).

I know it’s gross, but I didn’t mean to do it! It was a force of habit and there were two reasons why it happened. #1 I would run my teeth along the underside of my nail (YUCK) and it would eventually weaken and get a crack or something and then I’d have to “fix it up” with my teeth. Or #2 when I was nervous or watching a movie I’d bite them as a way of fiddling or taking my mind off it or something.

I absolutely hated having gross, bitten nails. I really dislike my hands anyway (they’re small, my fingers are double jointed and they look weird) but having bad nails definitely made things worse. I had been trying to stop biting them for a good few months before I succeeded but I always broke or weakened a nail and started from square one again!

I’m one of those people who needs their nails to all be the same. So if one is bitten, the others need to be. If my nail polish has chipped off on one, I pick it off all the others and so forth.

Super Lush Cosmetics Boxing Day Haul

Good morning class,

Well, 2015 was the year of the Lush obsession… anyone else? There’s literally nothing better than a Lush bath after a long, hard day of teaching 6 year olds. I became mildly obsessed with having a bath each week featuring a Lush goodie (like a bath bomb, bubble bar or some FUN!) since becoming a bath owner earlier in 2015. It had been a good 5-6 years since I had lived in a house with a bath before then. The last bath-house was my beloved parents home – I wish I still lived there… anyone else?

Good morning class,

I do realize I’m horrifically late for the party on this one but I thought I’d better do an obligatory 2015 favourites post because, well I have lots of faves and it’s sort of nice to round off the year like that (even though it’s February…)

I’ve decided to focus on makeup items because once I started delving into the skincare I wanted to do bath and body and then hair care and it just never ends! So I am just sticking with makeup today 😀

Some of these products you would have definitely heard me talk about. I tried to think of things that I used most often and replaced quickly when I ran out, and got really excited when I thought of using them as a way to choose these favourites – but trust me, it was REALLY HARD! (I actually have more than 15 things to tell you about too… but I’m sure you’ll forgive me!)

Today I’m going to chat about one of my favourite beauty products for summer. My #1 “Summer Essential” if you will. Fake tan.

If you are not blessed with a delicious olive skin tone, or are one of those unfortunate people (like me) whose skin can be one of two colours; pink or white – then you’re probably in the market for a decent self tan.

I think self tanner is a fantastic invention and the way it’s been perfected over the years is incredible to look back on. Let’s face it, not everyone can pull off the deathly pale skin look. For some reason, I think my legs look ten times better with a bit of tan on them, like the tan acts as my rose-coloured glasses or something. Plus, anything to avoid sunburn and skin cancer gets a big fat tick in my book! I’ve never been much of a sunbather anyway…

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Moonstone

Good morning class,

Today I thought I’d have a chat about the #1 lusted after highlighter of the season. The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed. I got the shade Moonstone because I thought that would best suit my skin tone. From what I have read about the shades I think I was right. I know Champagne Pop went a bit nuts because it’s a collaboration with Jaclyn Hill but I don’t think it would have worked for me.

The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (BSSP I’m going to call it from now on so I don’t have to type all of that out each time) is rather pricey. At around $46 NZ from RY.com.au it’s not something you’d buy impulsively. So I thought I’d be the test dummy today (well, that’s what I told my partner) and let you know if YOU should buy it! Sounds good? Okay let’s go.

Good morning class,

I always have a little pang of guilt every time I lay eyes on my lipstick collection because there are so many that I barely use. However I can’t bare to get rid of them because I like to have the option of using them at some point. (Silly, I know!).

If you know me from school (and I know there are some staff/parents who read my ramblings – Hi! Thank you for reading!) then you know that I do try to wear an array of bright colours on my lips each week. However, if you’ve ever been to my house, you’d know it would take me about half a year to get through every lipstick I own if I wore one different shade each day.

I thought perhaps by writing this post, it might make me discover lipsticks that haven’t seen the light of day in a while and try to get some use out of my collection. Plus it will let YOU all know which lipsticks you should probably go and buy 😉 (sorry, not sorry).

Sleek Makeup Highlighting Solstice Palette Strobing Review Swatches

Bear with me while I contain my excitement… you know I’m obsessed with highlighters and this palette really takes the cake. Rose gold packaging, a purple shade, super pigmented, cheap… can we just take a minute to bask in it’s glory?

Strobing is something I am a complete amateur towards and to be honest I’m still sort of getting my head around contouring. Isn’t strobing just highlighting as per usual? Apparently not.

The way I see it, strobing is like excess highlighting. “Bulk” highlighting as Crystal Conte might put it. This palette literally does make ‘strobing’ ultra easy. I know that sounds cheesy and hopefully I didn’t put you off with that cliched, cheesy title. However I’m only being honest!

I know it feels too early to be talking about Christmas, but personally I like it! It gets me excited because Christmas is my favourite time of the year!

If you’ve been living under a rock, Lush is one of the most amazing, innovative and exciting brands out there. Every product they make is 100% cruelty free, vegetarian, ethical and awesome. They even create their own glitter! I have never tried a Lush product I didn’t like, and I’ve mentioned them plenty of times before on Miss White’s Makeup Desk.

Today’s post is just a quick wee haul of some goodies which I nabbed at the ever-exhilarating BIG BUCKET DEALS sale!

If you’ve ever been to one of these sales, then you’ll know the stress and excitement I’m talking about. If not, then you need to sign up to their mailer and see when they’re close to you!

The Big Bucket Deals is a makeup sale that feels like it happens all the time, but really, they happen about 3-4 times a year in one area. They travel around New Zealand cleaning out the purses of all those makeup obsessedlike myself.
